Welcome Bill Cook as Yugabyte’s New CEO
I’m excited to welcome Bill Cook to the team as the new CEO of Yugabyte! Bill is an extraordinary leader with an exemplary record of building and scaling enterprise infrastructure companies. Bill joins us from Pivotal Software where, as co-founder and President, he was part of the leadership team that helped solidify the company as the gold standard in cloud native software development and led Pivotal through its IPO and subsequent merger with VMware in 2019. Prior to Pivotal, Bill served as President of EMC’s Greenplum division and also as CEO of Greenplum prior to its acquisition by EMC in 2010.
But beyond the rich experience and complementary strengths Bill brings to Yugabyte as a business leader, I am really happy about who he is as a person. As we got to know Bill, it became clear that he has tremendous drive and ambition, and he’s as excited as we are for the incredible opportunities ahead on our mission to make YugabyteDB the default cloud native database. His core values and strong work ethic are fully aligned with the values Karthik, Mikhail, and I hold dearly about building a great company with a culture that values its people and customers.
Ensuring that our products continue to solve the biggest challenges organizations face as they develop and operate their mission-critical cloud native applications has always been close to my heart. Having Bill on the team enables me, in my new role as President, Product Development, to focus on my passion and work even more closely with our open source community and enterprise customers.
Today is a great day for our company and its community. Over the past year we have had some amazing momentum — we announced our commitment to 100% open source, released a major product update that expanded YugabyteDB’s geo-distributed, multi-cloud deployment options, and saw a 4x increase in new clusters, a 13x increase in Slack users, and a 3x increase in GitHub stars. With Bill’s appointment as CEO, we have gained another strong leader who, along with the rest of the team, will continue this forward momentum and drive the future of Yugabyte.
